Therese of Bavaria, born on July 8, 1792 in Seidingstadt, was a princess of Saxony-Hildburghausen and, through her marriage to Ludwig I, queen of Bavaria from 1825.

The marriage of Therese and Ludwig in 1810 was the first princely wedding in Munich since 1722. Therese had a dress made for the occasion in the Bavarian national colors, and the couple was greeted by peasant couples in their traditional costumes. On the occasion of this wedding, the Oktoberfest is still celebrated today on the Theresienwiese.
Between 1811 and 1828, Therese gave birth to 4 boys and 5 girls, Max Joseph was the firstborn hereditary prince, Otto, her favorite son, later king of Greece. Therese showed interest in the affairs of state of her husband, she possessed political savvy, was considered an extremely wise companion of the king and was prudent advisor to her son Otto, King of Greece.
Therese died in 1854 as one of 9000 victims of an epidemic. Ludwig wrote to his son Otto: "Dear Otto, you have lost the best mother, I the best wife! Her death was as gentle as your mother's life, she slumbered painlessly after 44 years of marriage, in which she became dearer and dearer to me because of her kindness.
